Little Dieter knew that he needed to fly; though he was shot down, imprisoned, tortured and nearly killed, he never regretted his flying mission over the Laotian jungles. The Grizzly Man was crazy about wild bears; he dared to take extreme risk in documenting bears, and ended up as lunch for one of his beloved animals. People call them maniacs, but Herzog holds his characters close to his heart, seeing in them pure souls, fearless in realizing their dreams. In Herzog’s documentaries mixed with fabricated scenes and statements, these eccentric beings are brought back to their lives - real, meaningful lives.
