Metropolis: ‘The Avatar of the 1920’s’ screens at the Brandenburg Gate & next at 34th HKIFF!

Referred to as ‘The Avatar of the 1920’s’, Fritz Lang’s original cut of the science fiction masterpiece, Metropolis, received an overwhelming reception at the Brandenburg Gate last Friday. Over 2,000 cult film fans braved the snow to experience the 1927 dystopian classic’s outdoor screening featuring as the World Gala Premiere at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.

The next screening will be in Hong Kong where audiences will be the first outside Berlin to experience the restored full-length “Director’s Cut” at the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) to be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre on 1 April, 2010. The Hong Kong screening will be accompanied with live music of the original score by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta under the direction of world famous conductor, Frank Strobel.

“Metropolis became one of the most influential films in cinema history. Its technical innovations and architectural look had considerable impact as early as the Hollywood films of the '30s and '40s and continued on up to and beyond Blade Runner”. The Hollywood Reporter

The 34th HKIFF(March 21 – April 6, 2010) offers a unique opportunity for the audience to experience the most influential science fiction film of all time. Tickets for the Asian Gala Premiere of Metropolis on 1 April 2010 -jointly presented by Goethe-Institute Hong Kong - are on sale now at URBTIX at HK$600, $350, $250, $180 & $100: www.urbtix.hk
