聖女貞德分兩集，最好一齊看，但也可獨立成篇。史上最神秘最受爭議的聖女，弱勢女子的一人抗爭，成了利維特喜歡的女神。上集聚焦村女到女將的演變，受神啟示打救法國，男人亦有感她靈性的純真，護送她穿越敵方領土覲見王儲。

下集的貞德以頑強鬥志和信念，延續激昂的聖戰，令王儲直搗蘭斯正式登基。可惜朝廷苟安妥協，她欲破敵卻無援，最後落入敵方手中。利維特拆解像謎的史實，逼真呈現不起眼的細節，痛快地還貞德一個公道，是一部女性充權的電影，成就絕不遜於德萊葉或布烈遜。2月6日場次設映後談，講者劉偉霖。

JOAN THE MAID is Jacques Rivette's five-hour, two-part cinematic epic on the life and death of Joan of Arc. Part one THE BATTLES traces the teenager’s journey from unknown villager to a woman defending her spirituality and becoming the vanguard of the French army, leading to a decisive victory in Orleans. Part two THE PRISONS follows her trajectory from witnessing the crowning of Charles VII in Reims, to her imprisonment by the British and her eventual public execution. Rivette’s detailed but abstemious narrative demythologizes the Joan legend and focuses on her as a very human heroine, brilliantly portrayed by Sandrine Bonnaire.
