‘In the Mood for Films – 25th Anniversary of Jet Tone Films’ with WONG Kar Wai and Master Class with Hungarian Director Béla TARR

19 February 2016 (Hong Kong) – The 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival will present “In the Mood for Films – 25th Anniversary of Jet Tone Films”.  Fourteen of the Hong Kong company’s films will be shown, including the long version of Eros: The Hand (2004) and The Grandmaster 3D (2015) which have never been screened before in Hong Kong. Founded by celebrated directors WONG Kar Wai and Jeff LAU in 1991, Jet Tone Films is known by cineastes worldwide for its unique brand of artful filmmaking, and has now become the leading creator of international-standard quality Asian films. The programme will include two Jet Tone releases never before screened in Hong Kong. Eros: The Hand is a 60-minute version of WONG’s shorter film that was featured in the anthology Eros (2004), which also included segments by Steven SODERBERGH and Michelangelo ANTONIONI.  The Grandmaster 3D (2015) is based on WONG’s North American version of his 2013 film and features a new structure, a streamlined narrative and additional material.A seminar entitled “In the Mood for Films – 25th Anniversary of Jet Tone Films” will be held on 25 March at 2:30p.m. at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre, with director WONG Kar Wai as the guest speaker and director Philip YUNG (Port of Call, 2015) as the moderator.   The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese, and admission is free.Acclaimed Hungarian director Béla TARR will lead a master class following the screening of his film The Turin Horse (2011), a meditation on the imminence of death and the pain that comes with it.  The film won the Jury Grand Prix at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.The Turin Horse will be shown on 24 March at Hong Kong City Hall Theatre at 7:30 p.m., followed immediately by TARR’s master class, which will be conducted in English.  Admission to both the film and master class is by ticket only.
