19 March 2013 (Hong Kong) ― Johnnie TO's latest gritty thriller
had its local premiere at the 37 th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) today. Audiences were treated to a special event as members of the star-studded cast – Louis KOO, Wallace CHUNG, GUO Tao, Eddie CHEUNG, Gordon LAM, Michelle YIP, LAM Suet, Philip KEUNG and Berg NG – showed up at The Grand Cinema, together with the revered director himself and scriptwriter WAI Ka-fai.
Hong Kong heartthrob Louis KOO plays a drug trafficker who is locked in a life-or-death cat-and-mouse game with nemesis SUN Honglei, a Mainland police captain. Single-minded and cold-blooded, the two men will stop at nothing to destroy each other. Johnnie TO speaks of his harrowing and action-packed new work, “this is my first film that’s shot entirely outside Hong Kong, and it marks the beginning of my collaboration with WAI Ka-fai to set cop stories in China that might be harder to conceive but are just as riveting.”
Widely acclaimed for his captivating performance as a battered drug lord, Koo said, “the strikingly realistic and violent action in the film would no doubt shock the audience, but as the characters reveal, it is the darkest sides of human nature that really give you the chills.”
