Yes, still more pics from my December Tokyo trip I haven't blogged. :-P
The day of Noodle's performance at the m-flo DJ Party we meet up in Tokyo to hang out before she had to head over for the sound check. We met in Harajuku and made our way to Shibuya for lunch, no way I'm passing up a chance for some Ichiran-
It was totally their idea to go to 109, I swear!
Apparently Audrey is a big Krispy Kreme fan and since they don't have them in Taipei, we had to make a stop.
I can't remember the last time I had a donut... They were quite good but I think I can't go back to my days of eating 6 at a time. :-P
After 109 and our donut stop, we ultimately ended up near the Tokyu Hands and I pointed out the infamous Western BUTLER Cafe (which you may remember from such Etchy blog entries as this one).
I guess the idea of white guys doing the butler thing freaked them out a bit, but they were much more interested in checking out a more conventional maid cafe.
Using the power of GOOGLE and stolen wifi access, I actually found a Shibuya Maid Cafe, luckily just a few blocks from us - Ichigo Miruku (which translates to 'Strawberry Milk').
I don't know if they picked this name because it matches the color scheme or if they chose the color scheme to match the name, but everything is pink in white inside.
OK, not /MY/ favorite colors, but apparently some guys like it, there were a decent number of male customers here, especially considering it was 3:30pm on a weekday. (and no female customers other than my companions)
OK, let's not kid our selves, I think no matter what the decorations are, the Otaku guys will come... even if it is sickeningly sweet like this. ;-P
And of course like any proper maid cafe, they have the requisite picture taking between customers and the maids:
After the bizarre poses last time, I thought I'd be jaded to this, but this guy managed to find something newfor me to consider strange... (" OK, you, the one with the cough, we're going to both squat down on the floor and take a photo... oh no, leave the face mask on!")
And yes, we did one too:
Noodles and Audrey insisted... I swear!
All in all - despite the color scheme making me want to claw my eyes out, it was a pretty decent place (now I don't need to go to AKB every time I want to enjoy this wonderful facet of Japanese pop culture...) And Noodles, Audrey and I had a good time hanging out together before the big show. (if you didn't see the blogs about the m-flo DJ party we went to that night, go here and here). More Tokyo blogs coming yo! I'll try to finish them up before Feb! ;-)
