| Entry | I went to see 'Live Free or Die Hard' (aka 'Die Hard 4.0') tonight at 1000 Van Ness.

I have been a big fan of the previous movies, I've seen all of them in the theater actually... so I wanted to see it., especially since it had a good tomatometer rating and I had heard good things about it...

It didn't disappoint me. The comedic chemistry added by Justin Long playing the straightman to Bruce Willis' super invincible cop worked especially well. The plot was complicated, but its supposed to be that way for this type of movie... like #1,2 and 3, the bad guy's real objective is obviously not what they want you to think at the beginning.

Maggie Q did a much better job than I expected too (thanks to Qiu Ming's stunt doubling and the completely inappropriate cleavage...) She's the #2 bad guy... she has some good action scenes... one thing that annoys me is the way some of the press coverage has been describing her as a martial arts star from HK... this is a friggin' joke!

one thing i didn't like was Bruce Willis' 'asian prostitute' line, but he got rebuked pretty badly in the movie, so i guess that makes it better.

Action wise it throwns in everything and the kitchen sink, lots of gun fights, car chases, helicopters, etc. I enjoying most of it, and it managed to keep the suspension of disbelief for a while... it only really went too far for me a few minutes before the end... with the truck and the jetfighter... (you'll know what I'm saying when you watch it).

Also like the first 3, Bruce Willis undergoes an absurd amount of physical trama through the course of the movie but manages to keep running around at nearly 100%... in the first one he had bloody feet for about 10 minutes then got over it... in this one he jumps from a speeding car or falls 5 stories onto concrete and manages to shake it off quite quickly.

I'll give it a 7/10... I'd say its as good as Die Hard 3, definitely better than Die Hard 2 (by far the weakest of all in my opinion).

ps - they played SOOO many previews before the movie... a good 15 minutes worth!  this version of the 'Balls of Fury' trailer looked MUCH MUCH better than the one I saw online. They also showed a trailer for Jet Li's 'War' and for Simpsons, which looks like its going to be pretty good.  Can't wait! :-D
