Flagday - I think there's the issue of 'proof' and enforcement. If I worked for Vans I could show up and serve papers to the company that runs that one shop, but they may claim its not a copyright infringement because in this case its not exactly the same name (although often it is). Even if it is they'll claim its legit or they'll claim they didn't know they're bootlegs.... either way you'd have to take them to court which makes things much more difficult, if not impossible (who do you take to court? the store? the mall? the owner of the store? where is he? maybe a company owns that company...) In the US a store selling bootlegs would be closed down by any half decent mall before the brand had a chance to show up and notice. Or the distributors wouldn't sell them.... Or the shipping company wouldn't knowingly transport fakes, etc. Here there's the lack of 'on the ground enforcement, and also the lack of legal recourse. I imagine the shop could just close down and reopen under another name, even in the same location. I think its hard to actually cut off the head of the snake.... short of showing up with police and arresting everyone til you can find the owner... (which I don't see happening unless you're bribing the police.... ) And even then, that's one store of out tens of thousands! Tracing it back to the factory is another problem. :-P
