Not too much to blog about, I haven't been up to too much the last week here in DC. I've been trying to get a draft of a journal article done in time for a meeting in CA on Friday.... and on the side taking care of my VCD burning, trying to catch up on some American TV while I can...
I have been trying to enjoy my parents HDTV as much as I can.. I watched the 2nd half of the All-Star game the other night, that was pretty cool. They even had HD poker on tv last night... I'm disappointed that 'Mythbusters' is apparently only filmed in Lo-Def... but let me say for the record that I wish Conan O'Brien was not filmed in HD... he is SCARY looking in high definition digital clarity! yikes!
Another thing I was tasked with was helping my mom clear out the obsolete technology... I got rid of the P3 system (that was my home PC back in the late 90's-early 00's), and I threw away a lot of serial and parallel cable peripherals (oh the pre USB days!)
the most difficult to chuck was our old Powerbook 160:
一番捨てたくないアップル古ポーワーボーク160:
Wow, a classic! this thing is probably like 14 or 15 years old. My mom was using it to access her email from the road for many years. To make sure there weren't any personal files left on the hard drive I plugged it in and tried to boot it up, despite not being turned on in probably at LEAST 5 or 6 years, it booted with no problem! (are you reading this Bob? Apple used to make notebooks that last!) ;-)
Oh man, its like a time warp, when was the last time you used system 7?! I think my phone has more RAM than this...
Well I cleared the drive and packed up the Powerbook, it'll make someone at Goodwill very happy to rediscover early 90's computing technology (and yes, I did check on ebay, its only worth about $30-40 now! original 1992 price was like $2400!!!)
Don't worry, we may be tossing the powerbook, but we're keeping the really old one!
