After the Typhoon... 台風後

たくさん人は台風のニューズを聞きましたから、「大丈夫？」を聞きました。実は8時まで昨日の台風が僕の家にあまり強くなかった。でも8時カラー2時までとても強風が在った！とても怖い！

A lot of people have been asking how the Typhoon turned out... as you know HK got a diret hit from Typhoon Nuri Friday... (rating a rare 'Signal #9' Weather warning from the HK government).

At my place it actually wasn't bad at all til about 8pm... the storm was passing through Saikung at that time and on the way out the winds hitting my neighborhood (Hung hom) were quite intense, especially around 11pm.  Needless to say, I stayed home. :-P

But Saturday afternoon I found some time in the afternoon to do some biking, so I went from Sheung Shui (上水) to Shatin (沙田)... about 14 or 15 miles...  but it wasn't easy, there was a LOT of stuff knocked around by the storm... check out my photos for specifics:

Anything passing under or near trees was littered with downed branches and what not.  those old ladies who sweep the streets are going to have their hands full for a few weeks at least... 何所でもゴミ一杯が在った

In some cases it was more than just twigs... this was  a few branches of a tree that fell across the entire bike path.  I often wonder why i bother to ride around on a mountain bike when 99.9% of what i ride on is nicely paved bike paths... well in this case i was glad i could ride ride over this kind of junk...  木が全部道を遮た

despite the huge storm passing through like 12 hours before, things were drying out and it was quite a nice day (and relatively cool and breezy!) 僕は全部２０キロぐらい行った。今日の天気とてもよかった！あまり暑くなかった。

ps - this old guy kicked ASS... one of the few who could keep up with Etchy...  he had just passed me right now cause i was bicycling and taking photos at the same time (not a good idea, btw).

the water in Tolo Harbor ( 吐露港 - wikipedia), was nice and calm, but i'm sure full of all kinds of junk got washed in from the storm...

Case in point...   I was shocked to see this as I neared Ma Liu Shui ( 馬料水):

That my friends... USED to be a floating restaurant... 

there was a barge tied up here that was a floating restaurant... they served food and drinks and lots of bicyclists and passersby used to stop here (its right next to a big maritime police station building).  You can see the barge here in the satellite picture on google maps)...

but now its all gone! doh, i guess the storm was too much!  Whenever i passed by at night, I always wondered if the people who owned it slept on board or not... hopefully they weren't trying to sleep on board Friday night!これは船レストランだった。今撃沈させた！

I kept going.  By the time I got to the Shing Mun Channel (

城門河 - wikipedia) my legs were feeling pretty tired (and my ass was not doing so good either).... but I felt some inspiration to keep going when I saw this:

not so clear, but across the river is one of two Olympic Venues for the Equestrian Events... (which just finished on Thursday night before the storm came in).   I quite enjoyed watching the finals on TV actually... more interesting than I thought it'd be. 香港の沙田に馬術のイベントするの場 が有る。

Despite the typhoon, the flame still burns!

Last but not least, i was almost all the way to Shatin station when I found a roadblock I couldn't drive over...

doh,  I had to stop and lift my bike over the little wall there and ride on the walking path to get around this one....

good workout,  by the time you read this, i'll be in Shenzhen getting a nice foot massage....
