i had an internship with disney childrens place… i was my boss’ first intern, ever. i was also the only female illustrator in the graphic arts department, and the only person under the age of 25. pretty crazy. it was the best job i have ever had. i worked with the most talented and generous people. but towards the end of my internship, there was a town hall announcement that there would be a hiring freeze. it was t-minus three weeks before my internship was over, and all nine interns were looking at .. no job. my boss admitted, “i wanted to hire you, but my hands are tied.” i had a good run with disney children’s place. by the end of the internship presentation, most of the company knew who i was. i was told people were still talking about the impression i left for the remaining week. i was so sad to leave.
it led me to concentrate on gallery work. i have pursued group shows and working on getting my name out there. i am very happy now; i had moved out of my place in glendale into a little cottage in a fantastic neighborhood. i have freelanced on the side, which would make awesome money if i had more clientele. i am also planning a clothing company with a friend. s’all gravy baby.
i heard some horrible news about disney childrens place. since disney children’s place isnt making the money the company expected, childrens place decided to split. now that it is just strictly disney, it went through a re-interview process.. it cut back a lot of the workstaff and now its a ghost town. most of the people i worked with, some who i admired and respected, had lost their jobs. damn recession. i can only hope that this this, we can only grow stronger, and that it will lead us to bigger and better things.
this shirt was done by my teammates, pedro astudillo and diego rios. i heart them.
female + gemini + hippie artist = 3 types of crazy = you lose. like an asian version of frida kahlo minus the old balls cheating husband .
