I was debating for awhile whether or not to bring up this sensitive topic of the Edison Sex Scandal. Being an artist myself, people always advice not to comment on it, but c'mon it has been headline news for 3 weeks now. Even people like me who can't read chinese newspapers and usually don't keep up to date with all the gossip, have been exposed to this scandal since it has become not only an entertainment headline but a part of the daily news.
Regardless of what I personally think of how such a ordeal could've been avoided by the choices we make as individuals....my heart goes out to all that are involved especially the ones I know.
I have to comment on that it is always better to be responsible and true to yourself and to those that you have influence on. As much as the media has attacked me in the past, I really think it was because they really didn't know me, they only saw the outer shell that was created by my company at that time so it was easier for them target me. What I am saying is that the media is not stupid, after awhile they know the real personalities of artists. If you are a good person in their eyes, after they attack u for awhile they will help u rebuild, it' a vicious cycle. However, when they feel that they have been cheated and lied to as well, whether it be the company's packaging tactics or the artist themselves putting up a fake front....that's when they are really harsh.
All I hope for is, that the entertainment industry and the media, especially in HK, views and deals with this as a serious matter. It is the habit of the industry to not comment on and quickly brush off any bad news, but I feel there are so many unhealthy issues and ways of thinking in today's society. Instead of opening discussing how wrong it might be, these topics, actions, or situations are known but eveyone seems to turn their head to it.
It' s still all quite bizarre to me. For example, in the States, if u saw a parent hitting a child a few times in public, it is mot likely someone will go up to the parent and say something. If it's in Asia, most likely we just turn our heads. The cultural ways of thinking and logic of people in Asia are so different, I am still struggling to learn and understand it.
Anyways, I am curious to hear the opinions of everyone on this topic and I hope the media and the big brothers and sisters of the entertainment industry can also offer some words of advice and comfort to those not only directly involved but also the fans and public.
Lastly, I do believe in second chances since life is about experiences, making mistakes, and learning from them...besides, I am still living with a shadow of my past mistake and counting on those that are willing to give me a second chance...as a public figure I do believe that we have to accept the responsibility that our words and actions are heard and watched by more than the common individual. However, we are not saints but human beings as well, so we will make mistakes, some more than others. The most important thing is to learn and grow from it , whether it be that you are the actual person involved,a fan, a friend,or just a bystander. Everything happens for a reason, so it's up to us as individuals to make the most of it...
My General Advice: I am not going to be all goody goody and preach how one shouldn't involve oneself in this sort of thing. People are going to continue to be curious and do it so I am just going to give some advice on how not to regret it. The advice is more for girls, however I do not exclude guys...the society we live in still comes harder down on girls then guy this sort of thing so I apologize for my bias....
It's okay to be curious about taking sexual pictures and videos, especially with the understanding that you rather have your boyfriend looking at you instead of other women...but 1st: It's best if u are the only one that keeps the photos, especially the graphic ones, no matter how much you're in love or lust, relationships change so u gotta protect yourselves 2nd: If you're going to trust someone u love with them, take a good look at the pictures that have been taken first, and delete the not so attractive ones. Also, being sexy in photos doesn't mean u gotta graphically expose your private parts, but if u want to get that explicit, it's best if it's without your face in it...it doesn't matter what the guy says or wants at that moment, boys will be boys and there is a higher percentage that they will show at least one or two friends especially if you break up or it was just a fling...so if you're going to share the pics, make sure u look smokin' hot!! (this goes for the boys too)
And to the guys...if u happen to partake in something like this, remember to at least have common respect for women, think of your mother or sister...remember to keep the promises that you made, and respect the trust that the other individual had in u to keep it private, be smart about where u keep these videos/pics (this is to the girls as well).
There is a thing called Ying Guo"....I think the closest translation is "What goes around comes around" or karma, so everything that you do in life, try to respect yourself and those around you...
