The Light Factory's Filmmakers' Showcase ** 

The Light Factory Filmmakers' Showcase highlights the art of short films, created by emerging, established, and student filmmakers.  In our eleventh year of hosting this event, we're opening submissions to filmmakers around the globe, while maintaining a special focus on regional filmmakers.  The films chosen will be screened and celebrated at Butter (950 Seaboard Street) on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.

  AWARDS   Best in Show (chosen from scores of the Film Selection Committee) $100 cash prize

 Best Local Film $50 cash prize

  Best Narrative Film $50 cash prize

 Best Documentary Film $50 cash prize

 Best Animation Film $50 cash prize

 Best Experimental Film $50 cash prize

 Best Student Film $50 cash prize

  Best 'Family Portrait' $50 cash prize - See the exhibition Bring the Family and submit a film from your repertoire that embodies your  interpretation of the show. 

  

All filmmakers accepted into the Showcase will receive two free tickets to the event.

DEADLINES

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:

Entry form and submission must be received by 5pm Friday, April 15th.  Materials received after this date will be discarded without notice.

NOTIFICATION DATE:

All filmmakers will receive notice of acceptance or rejection via e-mail by Monday, May 2.  Please make sure your e-mail is legible and correct on your submission form.  The Light Factory is not liable for e-mails lost due to spam filters or server rejections.

 HOW FILMS ARE JUDGED

All films are viewed and judged by a Selection committee, a volunteer group comprised of filmmakers, film enthusiasts, film educators, and critics.  In addition to the film scores, film screening decisions will be influenced by the time constraints of each screening.  No less than 10% of the films selected will be from North and South Carolina.

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

 

The work must be:  

*Completed after Jan. 1, 2008 *Non-English films must have English sub-titlesFilms must be submitted on DVD (NTSC) *30 minutes or under in length *Preview DVD must be labeled with title, running time, contact name, e-mail, and phone number *Preview DVD must be accompanied by a submission form.  Illegible or incomplete forms will not be considered. *You may submit more than one film, but it must be accompanied by its own completed submission form. *If your film is selected, The Light Factory reserves the right to promote your film to print, broadcast, or internet media as required to market the Showcase as a whole.  You will be asked to send us a still image from your film for such purposes.  You may also send us a 60 second trailer, film clip, or filmmaker's statement for such purposes. *All films selected for The Light Factory Filmmakers' Showcase grant The Light Factory the rights to use the DVD and press materials for promotional purposes. *The Light Factory is permitted to retain DVD copies of each film selected as part of our media library. *If you would like to make sure we received your submission, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard, which we will mail back to you.  We will not confirm receipt by e-mail or phone. *If you would like your preview DVD returned to you, please enclose return shipping materials and label. *Films must have ALL clearances available in writing.  Copies may be requested. *If you would like to be considered for the student competition, your film must have been made WHILE you were a student. *By accepting inclusion into the showcase, the filmmaker grants non-exclusive rights to showcase their film at the screenings (May 13 and May 14), as well as non-exclusive rights to repeat the showcase throughout the year for fundraising purposes.  All ticket sales are the property of The Light Factory.
