my friend romi posted this link the other day, where the guardian gives an excerpt of haruki murakami's upcoming book, "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running".

i have unfortunately not read his books, even though some of my friends are fans of his work.  but ever since i read he was going to put out this book, i've been looking really forward to reading it.  maybe in the mean time i will pick up one of his previous works.

i've had problems reading fiction since taking a job in the film biz - primarily because i watch so much fiction i feel like i need to ground myself by reading nerdy books.  (Speaking of which, recently read "Godel, Escher, and Bach".  If anyone's read it, i would love to hear from them about what they thought.  It's probably one of the hardest books i've ever read.)

i did my longest run today since completing the marathon back in feb - and managed 24 km at 2:19.  the first 8km and the last 4km was an immense struggle.  that's the strange thing about running - you can actually feel better if you struggle long enough.  but then, past 20km i think my  energy was just totally gone and it became incredibly painful...

there is a "condensed" version (relatively short, but i'm not sure if it is a separate piece or a summary) of how he started running in a june issue of the new yorker. i can scan it to u later. it was a great read (as always) even before i realized that it was him, when he mentioned the book titles.

I've read tons of Murakami. Would recommend starting with Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore...

Murakami's book looks an extremely interesting one. I like how he describes the need for his alone time during running and other pursuits.

It's impressive what you are doing, and sticking to your goals.
