Thanks Tony for sharing this piece. Take some time to watch to the end. Mr. Rogers speech is such a good reminder of what is really important. I didn't watch much television as a child but his words about the power of television is so true. And his view on neighbors is top notch!

Good enough is never good enough

There are times that I find myself saying the same thing a lot and this is one of these times.  I have found that many people don't understand what actors do to create something exciting to watch and yet very believable.  They don't understand how we create this magic.

I try to tell them how actors practice and rehearsal in the same way that professional athletes prepare for the "big game". And still most people don't understand or just don't believe me because it "looks so easy"....Read more

Missing All of you in Hong Kong

I am so excited that it is getting close to time for me to return to Hong Kong.  It just seems too long since I have been there.  I told Jason (you know that wonderful artist and my producer on my workshops) the other day as we were skyping to plan the workshop schedule that I know it is close to when I leave for Hong Kong since I start dreaming about the workshops.  Sounds a bit crazy maybe but that is what happens to me when I am excited about the work ahead.  I hope you all feel that way about your work as well.

NO ONE EVERY TAUGHT ME THAT!!!

NO ONE EVERY TAUGHT ME THAT!

Actors over the years have said over and over after we work,  “No one every taught me that!!!”   I am always amazed that with all the classes they have taken no one every taught them things like:

How to REALLY break down a script and analyze it. All the way.

How to use that analysis to decide what choices you need to make.

How to fill in the details that the script didn’t give you.

           How to figu...Read more

Steamed Buns and I steamed them myself!

Steamed Buns and I steamed them myself!

I had a meeting out in the West Valley of the San Fernando Valley.  It went later than I planned so I knew I would not make the Chinese New Year event in Studio City.  As I started back home I decided to stop at Star 99 store on Sepulveda Blvd in Van Nuys.  This is a huge Asian grocery store.  I knew I wanted another bottle of that fabulous Sweet Soy Sauce and I always find great stuff there.  So I stopped.

It was busy of course and I...Read more

5 Ways for an Actor to Work Out Every Day

5 Ways for an Actor to Work Out Every Day            by Jeanne Hartman the Actors Detective

An actor needs to be ready to audition at a moment's notice. You want to be on top of your game all the time. How do you do that? Actors ask me all the time how to keep their acting muscles in good shape.  Of course serious actors take class and go to their acting coaches as much as they can.  But an actor cannot be in class or working with their coach 24/7; so here are five ways for an acto...Read more
