Tokyo Saturday in Akiba pt 2: Geek Attack!

Let me conclude with the rest of our trip to Akihabara last last Saturday.... ( in case you missed pt 1, its here). これは秋葉行ったの話の第二部。メードカフェ後電器物の買い物した。もちろんヨドバシカメラへ行った。日本の一番大！

After eating a late lunch at the Maid Cafe, Swang and I did some browsing at the numerous electronics stores in the area.  But the main place I wanted to visit was THE electronics store in Japan... Yodobashi Camera...  the one in Akihabara opened only a year or two ago... its supposedly THE biggest electronics store in Japan:

we spent some time wandering around,  its quite easy to get lost in there.

we also stopped by to check out the video games section.  We wanted to see if the Wii Fit was available yet... they had some kiosks set up running promo videos, but nothing on sale and no floor demos to play with. :-(

But they did have something cool:

oh yes... free downloadable Nintendo DS demos!  I'm not sure if they do this in the US or HK,  but in Japan at stores like this they have a wireless connection available via the DS kiosks,  if you connect w/ your DS you can download any of a few dozen game demos available.    DSのデモーステシュン在りました。僕はデモードウンロードした。面白かった。

As you can see,  I was not the only one taking advantage of this... (i was just the only one over 10 years old)... :-P

On the way out we happened upon something interesting... 

駅へ帰った時、面白いバンドを見た：

Street musicians are quite common in Japan... they set up in parks or outside of train stations and some of them even bring their own fancy sound systems...

but this is Akihabara,  so you can expect it to take an ANIME OTAKU twist... these guys perform music from anime for the local geek audience (anime soundtrack music is actually a relatively large part of the music market in Japan believe it or not).

秋葉のバンドですから、普通音楽じゃない。。。アニメオタクの音楽ですよ！隣もほかのオタクバンドが居た.

Actually there were two bands set up uncomfortably near eachother,  the 2nd one was more blatantly 'otaku-ish'... 

But not only do you get weird performers, you also get weird guys in the audience!  Check out the video:　ビデオを見てください！

Actually I've seen even worse when I was here 1.5 years back,  I have to dig up the video and upload it some time...  :-P　　実は前回来た時、1.5年前、もとStrangeのオタクバンドを見た。。。後でそのビデオアプーしなければなりません！

that guy in the white was scary... like he was on meth or something.. but he wasn't. :-P
