Macau - pt 1!

Last Sunday, while Mio-chan was in town, I took her for an afternoon trip to Macau.  Its only an hour away by boat, so we meet up at the ferry terminal at noon and headed over.  Luckily the weather was clear and a bit warmer than the previous (and following) few days....

Since I have been here now 4-5 times as a tour guide and tourist ( click here for the most recent trip),  I didn't take a lot of pictures at all the places we visited,  but I took some of some different views this time...

先週末日本からの友達にマカオまで連れて行った。僕は何回も行った事が有る、今回人気観光所であまり写真撮りません( 前回の写真見て下さい)。。。でも面白い写真も少し撮った。。。

First stop was of course Senada Square.  But it was decorated for Chinese New Years, so it looked kinda cool:

After grabbing lunch we walked to St. Paul's Cathedral ruins,  inexplicably I forgot to take a picture!  we took a short hike up to the Mount Fortress.... One picture I wanted to share was from the walls:

The Grand Lisboa is almost done! (with its bizarre shape...)

Then down to A-Ma Temple:

Last time I tried to come here it was after closing time so I didn't get to see anything,  but I guess I didn't miss out too much,  not too much other than a few alters and the giant incense...

giant incense coils on the left,  i think they take a few days to burn through completely.  on the right was a strange site...  people dropping money into a fountain... including paper money.... note that all the paper money were Chinese 'mao' (毛) bills, which are worth fractions of a yuan... in other words only a few US cents each.

I promised Mio that I would find a good place that serves Macau's famous egg-tarts, so we took a taxi down to a place in Coloane island (or rather what used to be an island, now its connected to Taipa by landfill... home of the new 'Cotai Strip'... we passed the Venetian on the way:

My first chance to see it in the daylight, holy crap its big! (2nd biggest building in the world by floorspace).

Our destination was a bit less glamorous, but worth the trip,  ' Lord Stow's Bakery' -- apparently this guy was the first one to combine the Chinese egg tart with the Portuguese pastry...  but apparently only did it in the late 80s...  I had always assumed these things had been around longer....

Tasted quite good! 美味しかった!

Last photo for this blog:

Sunset + Wind Turbines on the hills behind Zhuhai (thats 'Mainland' over there across the water....)

I have some more Macau pics... have to save them for tomorrow. 明日もと写真アプーする。。。

seeker: normally its not that cold down here in winter, but the last two weeks w/ that big snow storm in china, its been below 10 degrees, which is extreme when none of the houses or apartments have heaters!
