Korean Movie Review: My Boss, My Teacher (투사부일체 )

Another korean 'sit-com' comedy that tries to come up with a 'wacky' premise -   this time its 'what happens if a young mob boss is forced to become a teacher at a high school... much hilarity ensues.

Like a lot of the movies I've been watching lately, this one ALSO stars Jeong Joon-ho ( 정준호) who was also in Marrying the Mafia, Wacky Switch, Last Witness and many more.  Apparently 'My Boss, My Teacher'  is a sequel to a 2001 film called ' My Boss, My Hero', where Jeong Joon-ho is apparently sent back to finish high school.  I haven't seen that one, but I'm guessing its extremely similar... :-P

One thing that bugs me about some Korean comedies is when they suddenly stop being light comedies and suddenly become life and death melodramas.  I'm not just talking about some sappy romantic sub-plot at the end,  I'm talking about life and death and violence, etc.  'My Boss, My Teacher' does this a bit better than most, but at the end of the day none of its very memorable.  4/10, minus one for excessive head slapping.

Note: this image has absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie:

flagday - well the major difference is that this is high school, so unlike Kindergarten cop, this one deals with more serious subjects w/ the students (bullies, sex, etc).
