    I remember I saw this from DESMA10.

It is still the best class I ever had in college (not only because I obtained an A easily). It was just inspiring. And it was just motivating to have my hands on color projects.

I don't know how to appreciate Kandinsky's style in particular. Indeed, this is very primordial designs when modernism was blossoming.

I started to wonder how was it like to create at that time? Did they just all of a sudden come en mass just within the turn of the century? How did other people feel at that time?

Went to Karen A. Smith's book presentation last week. Quite inspiring as I have been very uneducated about art and art history. Have got the books sitting in my office now so I better squeeze some time to chew on it... would defly make a good source of information for a noob like me. But it was great to have met Karen. She is a very gentle and nice woman. Year 1993, just right after my first visit to BJ. None of us could foresee how things would be like in a decade. To me, the impressions that I got was, it was far from that. But looking at it today we can all tell the booming of our mother nation is vast and intense. Compare to a long evolvement of European history, say from Industrial Revolution to the Wars and to Modernism; we saw the changes, perhaps from a scale of 0 then right to 100 within a decade. I hate to use this adjective, but my guess is people in general have sort of a "distorted" vision of seeing this world. Or at least the world around them. It is not even up to us to discuss whether they are ready for such changes, and there it goes; its already there. Yes, I always tend to look into the human side of each thing. I like psychology. I like to read between lines. I like to guess what do you mean by that. But I hate the quantative way of getting the answers. Numbers just don't seem to make sense to me (not that I am saying I am a total math retard, and in fact, I just been avoiding to admit that I am average, esp. given my multi-talents =p). So basically I guess we can tell bits of this and that via paintings and such. Artists make their statements. And artists are simply no more than laypersons.

Living in a place striving to survive within hundreds and thousands of hungry mobs wouldn't be much of an easy thing. Now, I really wanted to know: what exactly is going on?

So, I have been writing about Wing Shya in the previous posts. Many of you might wonder, who is Wing Shya? And what's so good about Wing Shya? To me and to the many, art is a very subjective matter and, we perceive things in many different ways. I am not trying to persuade you that this is some masterpiece. But personally I think this is a well-done job. I like colors and entertainment.

This project, originally called Angel Mask, is a collaboration between the two artists whom I adore: Tatsuyuki Tanaka and Wing Shya. Tanaka was the key animator for the legendary anime, Akira. On the other hand, Wing, has been sort of a subconcious art mentor to me since I was a teenager (of course, I didn't know this artist back then; his works influenced me to a certain extent, however). All in all, this turns out to be quite a perfect match and, turning a manga into real pictures is just like filming EVA/Akira in Hollywood -- apart from the time taken -- I mean, Wing has put it into reality already. Whilst for the movies, I am looking forward to seeing them in the theatre... soon.

(Keep your fingers crossed... they don't exploit the "Hollywood" style taking away the taste of anime!)

The fruitful result of this project will be again showing in Hong Kong this coming September at OBG -- with much grandiosity -- called PREVATION. Here's a snap preview of the images vs. the manga story board... you like it, or not?

The anticipation for the Olympics is not doubt swelling. Apart from the mascots which I rate them as..... mediocre (or on the meanest extreme, fugly); the icons for different sports events certainly deserve some props. Highly loyal to Chinese culture made best to exploit the original Chinese pictogram. Have you even thought of it is such a beauty to WRITE, or, being able to write elegantly? Even though bounded by the squarely formation of Chinese characters; the richness of it, the pictorial basis of it allow great metamorphisis to be executed in the soul of the characters.

The Oriental culture, by any means, is going to rule in the next decade or two. Being CHINOISE, bearing the decendency, tongzhimen, it's about time to EMBRACE YOUR ROOTS. I reckoned that very few people in Hong Kong (including myself)  genuinely love and appreciate our mother nation -- given the stereotypical tyrannies pertainining to a sad history of the society and politics. I contend the segregation of AESTHETIC and POLITICS, even though most of the time things are just slighly more than black-and-white: politicians play along with their "artsy" games, while artists provoke politics and create controversies (yes, have totally overlooked the business/commercial factor here, but screw it!).

So, overlooking any other things but just something purely pleasant to look at... here is a piece by, again, Wing Shya that I think worth sharing: http://www.i-dmagazine.com/worldwide/wing_shya.htm

You don't have to agree with me. And I don't LOVE this entire culture thing as much, but I am learning to appreciate it. By this, I think, is the only means to take a step back and weigh it to yourself: what is worth your attention?

I been really slacking off a big time! To procrastinate, is to do every single thing but to TAKE A SHOWER AND GO TO BED.
I guess my energy is just excessive nowadays.

You see here, I have never been a mac fan. I like it sleek, I like it stable, but I don't like it asking me to pay so much while the hardware breaks down quite easily. I'd rather afford cheaper machines, abuse them until they die.

    What a sadist I am.

I can't tolerate the retardation of iTunes anymore. I'm going back to my lovely winamp with the skin that I loved most. It feels great to "lighten up".

    N.B. I didn't draw that, it's chix0r!

I think what's gone is my innocence - and my youth - I know it sounded cliched but as you get older it's harder to accept failure. That's why I will never drive with my eyes closed anymore (bad analogy - but you know what I mean). I miss you babe - despite it rocks to be home I miss my bitches in HK a lot.
