Positive Vibes for the New Year

Just a quickie to wish everyone a very large Kung Hei Fat Choi for the year of the Ox and may it bring health, wealth and happiness (but not necessarily in that order) to us all...

My simple view is that if we ignore what 'they' say and keep doing what we do, maintain a positive outlook and remember to enjoy it, then next year will be fine...

And finally, heartfelt thanks to all our clients, suppliers, supporters and friends for believing in us and for helping to make last year one of our most ineteres...Read more

Celebrity Designers x Beer

First came the brilliant young celebrity designer who managed to take the original Heinekin bottle and make it look like a can in the shape of a bottle, and now this...

Congratulations to design over-lord and mega-star Philip Stark who has just earned a huge sack of cash for taking the original 1664 beer bottle and making it look like an expensive shampoo. Nice work Phil, I am truly amazed.

Another ID for UK dance music

This was a fun one – design an ID for the DUSTBOWL project – a collaboration between the UKs mighty Elite Force and dance music superstar Meat Katie – which was first heard by the world on MK's comp for Ministry of Sound. The brief they gave me was simple - "unhinged and twisted like a travelling carnival in 30s America". Here's the final ID and below some that got away because they were "a bit too rodeo". And to hear the tunes that go with it, check Read more

Design that died. Part 2.

This time it's some poster work for the annual French arts festival in Hong Kong that was unceremoniously rejected.

New ID for UK Producer

First off the production line for 09 here at Stylus HQ is this identity we just created for UK-based music production outfit ZODIAC CARTEL. They wanted something that referenced comic books, had a kind of superhero feel to it and also had a simple, modern, clean, clear identity and icon.

Here it is. The icon itself is a dynamic interpretation of the traditional zodiac wheel, while the type and colours give a softer, less corporate look while also giving a nod to retro comic styling. Below that are the ones that got away, showin...Read more

We're Hiring...

Don't listen to what "they" say.. It's not that bad - or at least it won't be if we ignore them and get on with it...

So, going against the grain, we're looking for new people to join the CS team. This time we need a PR Exec to start immediately working on one of our key cosmetic clients. Its a fun brand, cool team and the pay is decent. As usual, we're more interested in the person than the resume, so get in touch if you're interested or tell a friend if you're not...

Design that died. Part 1.

Here's the first in an occasional series featuring work we've done at the studio that we like but didn't make it through the client selection process. Design that died. And if we don't show it here, it'll just rot on a forgotton hard drive somewhere in a bottom drawer, never to see the light of day again. Shame.

Part 1 - rejected graphics for an apparel company.

INVASIAN - Issue 2 Available Now

The phenomonally professional and ultra slick magazine of Asian graffiti and culture has just dropped it's second issue - and it's bigger and better than the last one. More pages, more sections, more pictures, more topics, more stuff...

Massive shout to Sinic, Stan and Friendly for raising the bar yet again and for showing that a little passion and attention to detail goes a very long way. I can honestly say that I've never seen a new niche magazine done this well anywhere in the world.

And a big s...Read more

Does anyone know what we do?

Since we started ChinaStylus eight years ago, we're lucky enough to have been involved in loads of different projects in loads of different disciplines. We've done events, interiors, product design, magazines, books, documentaries, TV and film stuff, animation, shoes & apparel, interactive, giant murals, retail design, live demos, university lectures, PR, guerilla marketing, stunts, workshops, special projects and everything else in between.

That's great for us but can sometimes be confusing to our beloved...Read more
