The damages caused by tainted milk are so extensive, it gives a clear signal that greed as the primary motive for "doing business" can bring the World down.
For the past 30 years people flocked to China for gold. China emerged as the "Wild Wild East". Thousands of books were written on the "know-how". "Exploitation" was taught in universities.
What was not taught in schools--the moral and ethics of doing business in a developing country brings the current disaster.
China has a large population made up with a lot of farm people, unsophisticated in the Western ways. They learned from foreign investors who brought with them modern technology, clever designs, and sometimes, evil intents. Cheap and useless products were made and sold all over the World.
The stamp "Made In China" has become a seal of disapproval.
Was it the sole fault of poor workmanship and ignorance of Chinese workers?
How about those foreign businessmen who insisted on demanding to cut costs? Knowing full well what they paid for couldn't possibly be "enough" to make a decent product? !
Look at how the chaos in the market turned our lives upside down by adding melamine into food products! Think of how much money was made in the process of shortchanging the consumers. Think of how many people have become rich, bought big homes, opened huge and impressive offices--by feeding their customers with poisons.
Then look at how the ruthlessness has hurt our economy.
It only takes a short time for the truth to come out. But perhaps it has taken TOO LONG for the felons to be caught. It has certainly taken too long before the babies' illness became symptomatic, sending us our first warning! I, personally, had already eaten too many bags of M & M's. . . .
The lesson is always there. There is no NEW wisdom to learn. The old saying of "Doing the right thing" is the only way--either in making a candy bar, or finding co-felons to cheat or conspire in a complicated manner. The result is never too far. Because only "The Truth Will Set Us Free". . . from Jail (I mean).
Even if doing the right thing takes the thrill out of living, and the "Wild Wild" out of the "East". My dear Fellows, should we try any other way?
