yes that's me, sorry folks - despite my mobile broadband I have been awol for awhile...

Last Saturday K and I hitch hiked to Christchurch, I wanted to see my grandfather and K was staying with a friend and her brother (who is the tattooist and he wouldn't tattoo K btw as he said she was too young, hehe but I'm not the bad guy).   I was gonna take the bus but I couldn't face the length of time, I would rather stand at the side of the road than sit in a bus.  Anyhuu we had some interesting rides, the first was a kiwi guy who has been working in Dubai and designing floors 8-22 of that big rotating building they are building.  The second was a women and her two kids, she is a Filipino who has been here 15 years and runs two businesses she started from scratch.  The third was a guy who went to Nelson Boys when I was at Nelson Girls so we knew heaps of the same folk, it was great and the last was this Welsh immigrant who took me right to my  grandfathers door.   Despite it's inherent dangers, I enjoy hitchhiking and the interesting people one meets.

I did manage to get online a little down in Chch but still got a bit behind with myfeeds and comments and when I got back to Nelson I was really busy trying to get my mums cottage ready for tenanting - I still have lots to do *sigh*.

My uncle who lives in Canada has given me his car!!!  It cost me $400 to get it on the road (warrant, registration, road user charges (its diesel) etc).  Bloody great.  Thanks Unc!!  I will have to send him a thank you package with kiwi food in it (that they can't get in Canada) - stuff like vegemite, pineapple lumps, peanut slabs etc.  I picked it up from a farm outside of Chch (his wife's family) and there were rats nesting in it.  Ewwww (mind you they are farm rats not sewer rats) I have cleaned it lots and nearly got rid of the smell - it smells like tom cats had a peeing competition.

my new car with K and her friend sitting inside.

My sister was down there at cricket camp so we went and watch her play and I took her out to dinner as it was her birthday also AND my brother and sil had their 2nd baby when I was down there so I got to meet her straight away.  yay  I forgot to take photos though.  doh

No apologies needed.  Missed you around here but you've been quite busy now.  Hitchhiking must be interesting but I don't think I;d ever venture to do it in the US or when I'm by myself.  Congrats on the new car! Maybe if you air it out when ever you can the smell will eventually totally dissipate.

Very nice of Uncle.  I gave someone a car once.  They are still thanking me, even though it was years ago and she no longer owns the car.  Nice feeling.

Nice how things are falling into place. If the smell doesn't go away maybe you can switch out the seats if you find a similar model at an auto salvage yard.  Good uncle.  Congrats too.  I hope you took before and after pics of your mom's rental place.

Wow, had a busy time. My uncle hitchhikes all the time, he really enjoys the people you can meet. It's nice to see how many different characters you both met.

Lovely gesture of your uncle, that's great news on the car. Had I of been there I would of adopted the rats for you :)

Happy Belated Birthday to your sister, and congrats to your Brother & SIL too!

All right! Got yourself some wheels! That'll be of convenience, I believe. You did a ton of things with the family. Very nice. Hitchhiking sounds like it can be an adventure - the good kind of adventure. Ever see that movie The Hitcher (1986) with Rutger Hauer?
